The best piece of advice I can give is to forget about Dragon Ball Z and just take it as a movie, and not something that takes place in the real world. In fact, if you are not a fan of Japanese culture, then it may be an insult.

People who have no prior knowledge of Japanese culture are all too often drawn into their TV and movies. You’ll never get through college without hearing some American movie that was in a Japanese anime series. It’s like everyone in Japan is fans of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

So let’s set the stage. The first Dragon Ball movie was released in Japan and went huge, becoming the highest grossing movie of all time and really solidifying the character of Goku in the Western world. It also caused Goku to get a second movie which became even more popular.

For the uninitiated, the story revolves around the (now super strong) Son Goku who is sent to Earth to make his parents happy but discovers a dragon at the end of the movie that turns him into a human (God of Destruction of course) so he can go home and save his world. Now, there are five movies in the Dragon Ball series. Each follows Goku’s adventure through different planets. They feature the same plot line but each movie has its own focus on Goku’s quest to save his family and friends.

The Dragon Ball franchise is so popular in Japan that they now have a whole book series based on the characters that is written by people who grew up watching the Dragon Ball series. Every book contains more Dragon Ball material and has a specific theme of its own. They also play a very big role in the anime industry in Japan.

So what does this have to do with today’s training? Well, basically the Dragon Ball has been completely misrepresented by many people who do not know anything about Japanese culture and even the American culture in general.

If you want to learn more about Dragon Ball then you need to do your research and not listen to anyone who has never been exposed to Japanese culture and doesn’t know what a Dragon Ball is. It is a very simple concept and can become a whole lot more complicated when you start talking about manga and anime styles, which many Americans don’t understand and tend to take as stereotypes rather than the simple entertainment they are.
